Remember that thing about the shot in the dark I took? Well…

‘twas the weekend before mid-terms and all libraries were packed…but they were missing one little jamaican girl named “Ben”. I found myself on the road driving to Austin for some auditions for this program. Oddly….

  • I didn’t know if I wanted to do it.
  • I didn’t want to waste valuable study time.
  • I was uncomfortable at the very thought of it.
  • Didn’t want to waste money.
  • Wasn’t sure who to take or where to stay.

Long list of bullets short, it seemed like a total waste since I was so uncertain. One motto that I tend to follow is, “doubt means dont”. I guess that can only apply to certain things since this did not apply, not one bit. But, I took a chance and stepped out of my comfort zone and threw myself into a new situation and environment; blindfolded with a Blind Man guiding me without his eye seeing dog.

Needless to say… It was worth every penny, worth every second of mid-term study time, and gallon of gas used. I went for one purpose and found many others in the process, bonded and came to a good understanding with a friend, explored all of Austin, met many people and exchanged so much information, and even managed to study for my mid-terms late night.

But, one of the best things about it though…on my way back from Austin as I was heading to my school library for my usual late night sessions, I got a txt…”Just wanted to tell you as a friend to me you inspire me to work harder”.  I learned more about myself and established new goals, along the way even inspired another.

I’d say it was worth it.
